Hello All - I am a long-time owner of a 1971 280 SL but very new to the Pagoda SL Group. Some time ago, I was told that I have a replacement engine in ml 113. This is the information stamped on the engine:
130 016 32 01
280 SE/A
Thanks very much for your help!

Hello Rick, that's not an engine number, it's a head casting number, see this chart in the tech manual
https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Engine/CylinderHead
If you can post the actual engine number, which should start 130 983 and then 1 or 2, (LHD or RHD) and then 0 or 2, (Manual or Auto), and then the remaining digits, and also the last digits of your VIN, then at least someone can see if it dates to your car build date, but without a data card, i can't see how you can fully prove it's original, perhaps someone else will know?

Your engine may not have any number on it; replacement engines came without numbers, the idea was that dealers installing those would punch in the car's original engine number, but many didn't. There could be a riveted plate with the text "Tauschaggregat" which is German for "Replacement engine" but sometimes those plates go missing as well.
