Post by: jonp821 on June 24, 2024, 18:46:59
Greetings all ----- Has anybody used the Heathkit exhaust analyzer to set the rich/lean mixture??   Looks like there are a few of them available on eBay for a reasonable price ---

Hi,

I use an old Bosch exhaust gas analyser to set the CO at 4% at idle.
Works fine for me.

I've been happy with my Gunson exhaust gas analyzer. Important that they are accurate of course, I had not heard of the Heathkit, they seem all older units?

Here's the Gunson, new:

Heathkit? Oh, my. That company made kits that hobbyists built (radios, TVs, etc.) until 1992. So if you are looking to buy a Heathkit exhaust gas analyzer, you are getting something MADE by a hobbyist, probably at least 30-50 years old. I would not think that the sensors are still that good, and I would also think sensor technology changed over the ensuing decades.

I think it may be better to find someone with a more modern unit and go from there.
