Title: 230 with a short fuel pump - protector modifications
Post by: afibbe on May 27, 2024, 23:13:05
When I purchased my 230, it had a short fuel pump without a pump protector.  There are two styles of pump protectors available.  One has the cutouts and brackets that are designed for a 230 but I assume  the holes in the prorector are for a long pump.  The other one is designed for the short fuel pump but the cutouts and brackets do not fit my 230.  What have you done to install a fuel pump protector on a 230 with a short fuel pump?

Alex, I installed a short fuel pump on my early 230sl and I bought a grommet to cover up the unused hole: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=20760.msg147393#msg147393. hope this helps, Charles

I have an early 230 with the spare wheel tub and it has the short pump. Having problems mounting the protector that is correctly shown in the pics. The bracket that the pump is mounted to gets in the way. What bracket did you use? Any pics?

Its seems that you have to lower the pump, route/connect the fuesl lines and then fasten the protector/pump to the mounting location on the frame?? Doesn't seem right!!

Here is my 66 230SL. I chose to buy the correct protective can for the short style pump instead of cutting one up. Also you can see the bracket and there are 3 rubber buffers with threaded studs.
