Title: M127 Head Gasket
Post by: Duncan200 on May 21, 2024, 12:25:18
Hi All,

My engine shop has started re-assembly of my engine and he has advised me that my head gaskets bore is too small and the pistons will hit it.

My engine has been oversized to 83mm and as you can see from the picture attached, the Elring head gasket from the VRS set has a diameter of 82mm.

I have looked around on here and the internet and can’t seem to find bigger bore diameter gaskets offered for oversized pistons.

Has anyone else encountered this before or can perhaps offer any advice?

My engine builder is suggesting getting a gasket made up for it.

Any ideas anyone?

Doug

I would give Metric Motors a call and ask for advise. They have certainly come across that.

Just to update you all, I spoke to Mike at Metric via email. Very helpful.

Ordered the part number he suggested and it fits.

One thing interesting to note is the part number he suggested (Elring 046.451) is exactly the same part that I already had.

It was like the whole gasket was cut too far forward as it was definitely overlapping the pistons on the trailing edge.

Anyway, head is on, all good.

Thanks Doug
