Title: 230 sl brakes part 2
Post by: PK on July 26, 2005, 10:32:16
while removing lines, i've found a sluge in couplings leading me to believe the fluid has picked up moisture. feel it would be the best time to rebuild the calipers but the two are different. front right is embossed w/ ATE but the front left only seems to have a circle w/ a few lines like sunrays. bolts on rt front from engine side, torix on left from outside. does anyone know if ATE parts will work on left, or what make it is?

If I'm not mistaken, both Girling and ATE were fitted to the 113's, with ATE being a bit more common.  Rodd has Girlings and I believe he went though the process of full rebuilds on his, so he can tell you a bit more.

Early 230SLs had Girling calipers:

The picture you posted didn't look like what I have. I've attached a few images so maybe you can recognize it.

Well, I see "ATE" is cast into your caliper metal, there you have it

I do believe complete Girling calipers are interchangeable with ATE.
Would be nice to have a 'matched pair' though [:p]

Thanks Ben. I was concerned that I'd need different kits to rebuild each. My weekend is now planned.
