Hey guys, I'm looking for a wiring diagram for the 1965 230Sl, if someone could email it to me that'd be excellent.

Eugene,
I have a high-resolution scan of the 230SL wiring that I've done some arbitrary color-coding of just to make it easier to see circuits. I've also annoted all of the component as to purpose, so that you don't have to look up what component number xx is on a separate list. However, the file is a bit large (about 10MB). I'll send it, and see if it gets through.

David- Did I see you are coming to the Johio Tech Session the end of the month? If so, I wonder if you would bring me a copy & I'll pick it up there. I expect there will be others who are " electrically challenged" who might want one as well, whatever you may wish to charge for your expense & trouble. See you in Blacklick. Regards, -JP-

James,
Yes, I am driving to the the Tech Session. That's a good idea: I'll print some of these and bring them with me for folks who are interested.

David .... I will also be at the Ohio Gathering. Could you burn the diagram on a CD for me?

Chalk one up for me! On CD please, so I can print additional copies in color after they get dirty in the garage.

You know, I just thought about it, and I'm guessing that it is actually cheaper to put these on CD than to print them (given the price of HP's color ink cartridges). So, I'll skip the printing idea (except maybe 1 or 2 to show off) and bring some CDs instead.

Sounds like a great idea, mark one down for me as well.

The wiring diagram has been done and it's been published in the "Mercedes Benz SL CLub Pagode" by Joachim Ahlert.
Might want to contact him for a copy. I cannot copy or scan it without his permission.
I will ask him if I can scan it for you.

Did he do a 230SL version, or a different one?

I believe Achim did one for both the 230 and the 280 SL's. I have the one he did for the 280 SL and, with his permission, have sent some color copies to members here.

Achim did three of them 2 for the 230SL's one up to motor #000404 and the other from motor #000405 and then a 280SL version B August 1970.
I believe the 250SL is the same as the 2nd one for the 230SL.

David: Is it possible for you to email your wiring diagram to me as part of an attachment?
I could use some wiring info for a 230SL. My eMail is ccdmd@alum.mit.edu or ccdmd@mac.com

That wiring diagram is the same diagram that is in the owner's manual. If anyone is good with Auto Cad, the diagram can be reorganized and greatly improved by splitting up the fuses to support a logical organization verses trying to maintain the vehicle layout. Here is an improved wiring diagram for the 190SL that was created by Walt Puryear. http://www.190slgroup.com/tech/images/190sl_schematic.pdf

The 190SL wiring diagram is great.

Jim,
Very Good ...

Chad: My email with the diagram "bounced", the email was too large.
Tom: The diagrams you reference are where I started. I did a much higher resolution scan (hence, much larger), color-coded some circuits I was interested in (e.g., all constantly hot wires are red, all headlight wires are some shade of blue, etc.), and took the separate component desciptions from the second page and integrated them into the actual schematic (I got tired of flipping back and forth). I did this strictly for my own use, but am glad to share it with others as requested.
Jim: That 190 schematic is very nice. The one thing I'd really like to have is actual wire colors. I'd be willing to do the (laborious) work to put these on the diagram, if anyone ever goes through the (even more laborious) work of collecting this info.
Also, I've written Achim and asked him for a copy of his 230SL diagram. If it's better than mine, I'll use it instead. If it has some valuable features that I'm missing, I'll probably incorporate them (with his permmission).

Thank you much. The diagram on the web address seems to be very helpful for what I need right now. Jim, I guess my email server doesn;t accept files that big.
You all are the best. I am really enjoying my time spent on this forum!!!

Yours is a very good idea. I use the one you emailed me and it makes life very easy. My suggestion is to have separate diagrams each high-lighting different aspects of the electrical system.
Do you have a BBB. The color codes for the wires are listed there. If not, I could start on a list. Only, my emails to you get bounced back!!

David .... I finally looked at the wiring diagram that you gave me in Blacklick. It is excellent. The coloring of the wire lines very much eases the tracing of circuits.
I would expect that if you would like one that David would mail you a copy on a CD.
