My restoration is going on for more than 5 years, I bought the 230SL project in September 2018.
During restoration the parts moved three times, two times with my parents and the last time three years ago when I finally bought a house with an own large garage.
Despite thousands of pictures and saving all parts as good as possible in cardboard boxes and plastic storage boxes with compartments, I'm still missing some items.
This is very frustrating, because I was convinced I could find everything back.
The part I am now missing is the glove box hinge. At suppliers, that costs from just €170 to €200!
So frustrating.
I wonder if anyone recognises this, or am I the only one. ;)
At least I still have pictures from it.
-
I do recognize it. I have experienced it to a very, very painful degree - but with cars being in the shop who worked on them for several years. I took both cars out from that shop and threatened them with legal steps. I got most of the parts back, just most of them...
I guess you cannot threaten yourself with legal actions...
I am sure you will find this hinge... one day. It will emerge.
I fully understand your frustration.
-
Frustrating indeed, but my experience in similar circumstances is that somehow it will eventually turn up - in the last place you look!

I feel your pain on missing parts. I have ended up buying a number of duplicate new parts because I couldn't locate the first set I bought. Of course, the original parts turn up at the most surprising times. I'm not disorganized but I'm also not as organized as I would like.
I have an extra hinge that you are welcome to for the cost of shipping.
Feel free to PM me.

It’s a relief to know that I’m not the only one that loses parts on the way

No, you are not.
My Grandma, God bless her soul, used to say: “covered by the devil’s tail”.
I rather think they temporarily switch to parallel universe by mistake as the universes pass through each other, then they come back when same universes meet again.
Could not find more probable explanation.

It happens to all of us. And, the older we get, the worse it gets :) :)
-
Almost as frustrating as having a part and not knowing where it goes, because you did not mark the box/bag properly when you took it off.

When I took apart my glove box I placed the hinge inside the opening and forgot where it was. A year later when I went to replace the repaired glove box I couldn't find the hinge - so I gave up and started to work on the heater levers hoping it would eventually show up. Putting my hand in to work on the heater levers this darn piece of metal cut my hand - it was the hinge..

That was a nice surprise! ;D
Unfortunately I won't have the same luck, because the car has been blasted and painted since the dismantling. ;)

See my post in the wanted section to realise you're not alone!

Did you not see this??

Did you not see this??
Yes we had contact by PM, but shipping from USA to Europe seems very expensive.
That's why I try to find one in Europe, but otherwise I will take advantage of this kind offer.

I'm sure you're gonna find a similar hinge that you can easily adapt
It has to be measured properly but no doubt you could find it
funny that it has been dismantled from the glove box

In the meanwhile Leester sent me a hinge, so I'm very happy. ;D
