Hello,
I would like to overhaul my power steering box; so far so good.
I managed to unscrew the big nut with an enormous wrench (55mm) and with some heat it worked!
However the round nut with the 2 holes in it is more difficult to get loose.
I tried heat and two little pins, but not successful yet.
How do you guys do that? You made your own tool? Or a different procedure?

Do you think taking the 4 bolts out of the cover will help? Mabe that has to be taken apart first.

I did that before, but I have put them back in the house to have better grip.

What is the problem you are trying to solve?
What do you expect to do in this overhaul that will fix the problem?

I had a leak at the bottum of the pump and bought a seal kit.
Now that the pump is out of the car I want to replace the seals, assemble it, do the necessary ajustments and put it back in the car.

That will be a good job done. The page of the manual shared by dirkbalter seems to indicate that the entire disassembly may be documented in the MB manual. Do you have any technical documentation/instructions? I'm sure you can get a lot of help from experienced members. This will be a good thread to follow. Sealing up leaks is a common issue. Take lots of pics for us!
What adjustments do you want to make? Is it to reduce "play" or "slop" in the steering or some other adjustment?

I had a leak at that top seal. I could not get that nut off, finally I ordered a rebuilt box. Might consider that. Once I installed the rebuilt box, holy cow, my steering is so precise now. No play what so ever. I had been driving my SL for almost 20 years and did not know that you should not have play in your steering. What an improvement.

In the mean time the big 55mm nut is loose and so is the big round nut.
I used the new pin tool and some heat.
Good tools really made the difference!!

I am struggling a little with the torques to set in the steeting box.
In the Technical Manual (first line) it says 0.69 to 0.86 in-lbs which is 0.08 Nm. That is just the bearing in its house I suppose.
The second line says 1.38 to 1.56 in-lbs (0.16 Nm) However in the drawing 1.4 to 1.6 Ft-lb is noted. (2 Nm) That is another unit and a lot more!
Is that a mistake or am I mistaken???

The torque of certain subassemblies are verified / adjusted prior to assembling the complete unit. Some of the torque values are very low and require special torque wrenches.
