Title: Brake fluid hose from cylinder
Post by: Essjays on January 14, 2024, 04:26:33
Hi all. I put the 230 up on the lift yesterday and poked around. Bled all the brakes, and quickly realised that no fluid was getting to the rear RHS drum…
Seems to be the pipe from the cylinder might be dead somewhere… didn’t look nice. I'll need to get this part re made I think, so wondering if anyone knows the part number? Couldn’t find it in the manual. Thanks everyone

Hi,
there are no ready-made brake lines only ones you bend yourself which is no rocket science. Take the old one with as a sample.
See e.g. here: https://www.sls-hh-shop.de/main/en/mercedes-230-280sl-w113-/42-brakes/42-c-brakepipes.
Brake line sets for our cars are usually delivered in the correct length, but usually not in the desired shape. There are helpful tools and youtube videos for this, where Kunifer lines (copper-nickel-iron) can be bend easier than steel lines.
Alternatively, you can buy brake lines off the shelf and crimp them yourself. There are cheap tools available.
Search the forum for "brake lines".

Replace the flexible lines.  They collapse and don't let fluid through.  It is unlikely to be one of the solid ones.

Did you disconnect the pipe at the splitter and see if the fluid is coming out from there?

If you describe exactly which line you need, I will be happy to provide part number, availability and price.

I am not sure which one it is: right rear? But then it is not coming out of a cylinder...

He said he has a 230.

Yes. Rear RHS is in the rear. Cylinder in the front. There are 4 to 5 lines/hoses between those places (depending on VIN) and a T-joint. What am I missing?

I thought you mean there was no cylinder in the rear because of disk brakes.  The 230 has drum brakes, so there is a cylinder.  Sorry if I misunderstood your statement.

No, it is my poor English - I immediately associated cylinder with master cylinder, thanks for pointing out…

Replace the flexible lines.  They collapse and don't let fluid through.
A video demonstrating this from our own Will Samples.
