Title: Parking Brake Removal - Left Thread
Post by: acbrock on January 10, 2024, 07:11:30
Hi,
I was about to take out the brake tomorrow and thought I would read a little after destroying shifter Knob.  I turned and turned until I crushed it, then read I should have just popped it off!  Argh.. So the bolt were pretty stiff so I sprayed them to loosen them up and thought I would tackle it tomorrow.
Glad I read first.  Sounds like one of the bolts is Left Threaded!   Can anyone point out the Left one so I don't destroy it?  I could not find a good pick and I forgot to take one of my car.  But I found this pic on the site.  Is it this Big Bolt or the smaller one, that is just to the right and below the big one?
Thanks
A

To learn more about the search functionality take a look at these issues of Pagoda Notes - all are posted in the technical manual

Volume 1 no 2
Volume 9 no 2
Volume 13 no 1

Happy hunting

Searching the Forums does not search the Tech Manual.  You have to do it separate.

Ah!  Thank you.  I thought it searched everything!  That will be a big help!  Also reading the notes, getting the handbrake out was a piece of cake!
Thanks!

Hmm. Got it cleaned up and was about to Reinstall... But when I put the spring in it falls a little past the bend?  Looking at this parts list I dont have the washer under the spring?  Any idea what it is?  I looked at all the parts I had when I took it apart and they are all in the picture of my hand brake?  I also dont have the piece at the top near the button in that diagram?

Hmm. Says the photo upload is not working....
Here is a link if anyone wants to take a look...

All parts available at Niemoller and probably other suppliers

You talk about washer under spring, A 198 427 00 76, you will not get it neither in SLS nor Niemoeller, but you will get it form the Mercedes dealer, ca $15-20.

The other part is the rubber boot around the button. This you will get everywhere, also at the dealers, A 198 427 00 96, ca $40.

Quick way to post a parts diagram is to use the snipping tool, save it as picture and then post it as picture.

cool thanks.,  Man I never saw the piece but have been soaking my parts in Vinegar to loosen the rust.  I went and dumped out this big old pickle jar I am using to do the long parts and there it was at the bottom!  Wahoo..
