Title: Restoration Manual
Post by: tockuly on January 08, 2024, 04:10:02
I’ve been in a number of car clubs that publish restoration manuals. Is there any such thing in the Pagoda world? I’m starting to restore my 1970 280 SL and was wondering if the skid plate was painted black or maybe white (have seen both)? Was the original radiator over flow container flat black, mat black or gloss black? The questions go on and on… I’d like to restore my car to “factory original” without getting to crazy. Any suggestions for researching Pagoda factory originality? Thanks

tockuly,

Welcome to the Group!  No, we don't have a comprehensive restoration manual.  Things changed during the production run, so it's hard to do that with complete accuracy.  And, it would be a HUGE undertaking.

First, spend some more time getting familiar with the forums.  You posted this in the forum "Pagoda Spotting - Post here if you've seen a Pagoda somewhere".  It's where we post pics of Pagodas people have "caught in the wild".  Your question was probably better posted in "General Forum".  If you have specific questions on originality during your restoration, there is a "Question and comments on Originality" forum as well.

Full Members have access to the Tech Manual, where a lot of info from the Forums, and some original content, has been organized into a better presentation that forum discussion.  It is always being added to.

The transmission mount plate is body color.

The expansion tank was originally painted in a satin black. I used Eastman Extreme Chassis black (satin) for both the primer and finish coat. It produced a durable finish that matched the original to a tee.  Look in the Tech Manual and you’ll find the original decals intended for the tank.  You can print them from that file.  (FYI: this tank has soldered joints and therefore cannot be powder coated.)
