I had a question about the trunk decal, 'Beim Beladen", on my 65 230SL, #11655, built in June, 65. My understanding is that the decal should be blue, not red, and goes to the left (driver's side) of the trunk latch. Can anyone confirm that? When I bought the car years ago the decal was to the right of the trunk latch. I believe this is incorrect. Little details can be a pain ;D

Hello John, have a look at your post earlier this year, nothing really definitive. My early UK 65 car has the decal on the left lip, and could be original, but no proof, other members cars don't

Hi Bob,
I was hoping that someone, who didn't see my earlier post, might have the answer. However, the old posts may have had the answer all along. Someone wrote,
"I just looked at my catalog of Bob Geco, he states
Blue foil loading label with silver type 1'x 6-1/2'' goes in luggage compartmet on lip inside trunk 230 SL to early 250 SL".
There was a 230SL for sale recently on one of the auction sites. It had an original blue sticker on the lip to the left of the trunk latch. I've owned many 280SL's and none had that trunk sticker. I believe that this sticker was on some 230SL's and some early 250SL's. Maybe the reason only some had them was because they ran out at times???????
Thanks Bob,
John

Do you have trunk lid lamp and switch? It was optional for 230SL I think? If you have it, your sticker was most likely on the right hand side of the latch, closer to the outer end.

There are more opinions on here, still nothing conclusive, although it does mention, as Pawel says, that if there is a trunk light fitted, the label would have been moved to the RHS

Another data point. I have an Italian delivered Jan 1964 230SL with its (assumed) original trunk sticker . It is on the left trunk lip, no trunk light.

No trunk light. You have to wonder if there may have been no rhyme or reason as to the color and location of that decal.

The car that Mike Simon spotted on BAT has the decal on the LHS, there seems to be a theme that some earlier cars have this label, perhaps old stock were being used up, just a thought?

Yes, I saw that. Looks like an original sticker on a car that's far, far from original ;D. Amazing.
