If anyone has a genuine Mercedes 280SL fuel tank in very good condition (no leaks, no repairs), then I would be interested in making a purchase. Not looking for JP Group Dansk or other aftermarket parts.

I have one from a 70 280 Sl. it will need to be boiled out. I replaced it because i'm, not physically able to deal with cleaning it.The car had sat for about 20 years, but always in a heated garage. No leaks

It is available at Mercedes, A1134700701 for ca $1500 including VAT here. Just making sure you are aware of it.

I recently came across this site. It is a duplicate of the classic center website. I purchased some parts and paypal charge showed MB of Warwick (RI). Their prices are better than classic center with MBCA discount.

This is not the only MB dealer that is doing this, using a thinly disguised website to sell outside of their normal franchise area...may as well take advantage until they are forced to shut down and another one with a slightly different name from a different dealer pops up!
And, by the way, that price of under $700 for an OEM fuel tank for our cars is a STEAL. I paid probably twice that more than 20 years ago...if anyone has been fiddling around with an old fuel tank what with boiling, coating, repairs and what have you, this is a good opportunity to stop the band aids and get a good fix before the part is NLA. Once it goes NLA if it comes back it will be more costly.

I see that you have a 230SL, as do I. It appears that you are wanting to upgrade to the larger capacity 280SL tank. I investigated doing this and found that is not as easy as one might think.
The angle of the filler pipe is not the same. I suggest you do a deep dive to get more details on this modification before you cough up the big money for the replacement.

Isn't the well for the spare on early 230s in the way of a large fuel tank?
Also, what is wrong with the Dansk aftermarket tank? I heard good things about it on here before. I will face the same issue, choice between "restoring" my original tank or going the easy way and replacing it with a new one.

I'm reminded of the time I needed a new fuel tank many years ago.
I called Tim Kidder of K&K. He laughed and asked if I wanted "one that fits, or one that doesn't fit". Seems that he had a batch of repros made somewhere in Europe, and the filler neck was a problem.

We also bought and installed a Dansk small tank on my friends 230. No problem at all. I was told to inspect the filler neck right away as these tend to bend if not shipped properly.

I decided to order a new tank from the online MB Parts website. The cost was $672.01 plus shipping of $155.85. I called a couple of the MB dealerships prior to ordering and of course that is an online price only. Funny, but the dealerships listed for the fuel tank online, did not have fuel tanks in stock and if I bought direct from the dealer the cost would have been over $1000.00. So I will see in a week or so, when the new tank arrives. I'll let you know.

Didn't have to wait long. 10 minutes later my order was cancelled. The dealer said the tank was no longer available, which according to other dealers is not true. Not sure what the scam is, but will have to watch my credit card bill.

I have had a similar experience with a couple of the "discount" dealer sites.

I think they source parts at dealers, playing on the fact that owners often do not call or ask dealers for parts, buy at discount, make 20% or so margin and sell through the parts. Trouble is they do not systematically update prices or keep them somewhat low to lure you to their store.

I originally started this topic because I had found someone with a good small MB tank. They didn't want to sell it, they wanted to trade for a good large MB tank. I couldn't find one, so I gave up on that. Anyway, think I prefer having a brand new small MB tank. ($$$)

I just bought the 1134700701 for my car from mbpartsource and came at $660.
For the 230SL the number is 1134700601 but not available at mercedes.
