Title: Seat Mounts/Channnels
Post by: LA280SL on August 31, 2023, 15:18:07
I removed the seat mounts/channels to clean them up and get them sliding properly and noticed the remnants of what appears to me a type of tape.

Would this application be to reduce the road vibrations from the floor through the seat bottoms?

I highly doubt it. Reducing vibrations is done through all the rubber bushings in the various suspension components mountings, this tape I don't think would do anything in that department. That said, I can't think of a good reason why it is on your seat tracks. Prevent galvanic corrosion??

My seat tracks lack any evidence of ever having tape on them.

Thanks Cees.

Len, the side/surface of the part you show in your photo, mine are also clean on that section.  The tape is on the both sides of the part that is located inside that "shroud" piece.

Both my w113s have this tape as you show it.  This type of tape is used in many many areas of the car, especially metal to metal contact  - speedo, tac, clock, etc etc.  others on this site have recommended using Hockey Stick tape as a close substitute— that’s exactly what I used.

I think it’s anti rattle - and have read others say the same.

Hockey Stick paint?!?!?!?!?!?!

Hockey stick tape, not paint.  Used for wrapping the handle and the blade.

I think Cees has it.  My seat channels have the tape as well.
