Title: Speedometer Dial
Post by: Pagoda730 on August 28, 2023, 07:31:10
My speedometer dial has a silver disk (about 13 mm in diameter) at the zero Km/H location.  It otherwise looks original.  See picture.

Any idea what this might be?

My car is a 1963 230 SL that otherwise seems pretty original.

Looks like it's from the centre of the dial

Of course.  Thank you.   Must have fallen off.  Any idea how this is attached at the center of the dial?

My guess would be either a press fit or some glue.

Very fragile metal underneath, same as the needle, I would go for a drop of glue...

Pagoda730,

You posted in the Full Members board.  Most Members are not Full Members, so they have no access to this discussion.  I'm moving this discussion to the Electronics and Instruments board as the topic fits that board and all Members have access.

Thanks.

It is originally glued. A bit of clear silicone works well. Be careful to use some gloves handling the disc. It is raw, machine turned aluminum and the oil from your skin will discolor it if not handled correctly.
