Title: Backflush Procedure
Post by: mdsalemi on August 09, 2023, 18:32:14
Sometime in early September before the drive to PagodaFest, I think it's time for my long overdue coolant change. It's been too many years.

Has anyone done the procedure in the tech manual for the backflush? I don't think this has ever been done so any coolant change in the past never was 100%.

I'll use that as a starting point but any tips others can provide will be welcomed.

I already have two gallons of MB Coolant.

I've done that procedure twice. First time it went off with no hitches. Second time the engine momentarily overheated on startup, presumably due to air stuck in the system. So make sure you keep a close eye on the temperature gauge when you first start.

Another thing: it's a good idea to fully drain the system by also undoing the drain plug at the bottom of the block. Quite a bit more coolant comes out of there even after it stops coming out of the radiator drain plug.

Thanks Meyer, and for the reminder of the draining the block.

Never had done that part so will have to look for this plug.
