Title: What fixing to secure boot chrome
Post by: Merc_Girl on August 06, 2023, 21:56:23
Hi everyone

I decided to thoroughly clean the rear lenses of Bessy, inside and out, and replace the back plate (that holds the bulbs).

Anyway, to remove the rear lenses I needed to remove the chrome that sits either side of the boot/trunk lock. For some reason, these had been pot riveted  in place. As such I needed to drill these out.

What I don’t know, is how these should be secured in place. Should they just been riveted or screwed? If screwed, what type and size (flat head, Philips, self tapping, screw thread)? Are they the same screws as used elsewhere in a pagoda, perhaps the grill?

As always, appreciate all your help in assisting me in this endeavour
😁

Thank you!!
Would have never of found that!

So it seems there is some contention here as over whether a screw should be there or not. Perhaps these were just ‘vent’ holes.

Th reason for no screw does make sense though, so maybe at some point I will have a fiddle so the rear lights better hold the chrome in place so no screw required 😁

I’ve been systematically going through my car removing scratches and polishing all the lenses.  I’ve had great success with the three part system from a company called Novus.  There are two different scratch removers (for fine or deep scratches) and a polish to use after scratch removal.

Here’s a link.  I’m sure it’s available in GB.

There's one sheet metal screw for each piece of chrome. Both the trunk lock surround and the tail light surround also act to hold the chrome in place.
