Title: B-Pillar Caps
Post by: getsmart on June 06, 2023, 10:08:40
Hello all,

Does anyone definitively (no guessing please  :) ) know what material the B pillar caps are made from? I'm looking to repair mine (weld) but having trouble determining the material, perhaps cast steel as opposed to cast iron or even brass?

Being the early type I'm not wanting to do the common modification to fit the later style. Re-chromer is not keen to repair them so another job for me!!! All good  :D

Best rgds, Joe

Non-ferrous pot metal. Good luck welding it: https://weldinginsider.com/what-is-pot-metal/

Thankyou Alfred,

It didn't even cross my mind that its pot metal!!!! Even better!!! There are actually a few products for repairing/soldering pot metal so its worth a shot. Basically solder with zinc in it. The US one has cadmium in it, precaution for anyone thinking to try it.

In the US

In Aus

PS. I've successfully repaired the aluminium (black) grilles with the aluminium equivalent of this product.
