Hello - I have a 1971 280SL and need an extra set of keys made. I have 2 keys, one for the gas cap and one for everything else. I was wondering if anyone knew if these blanks offered on ebay are the correct ones for my car and if not, are there any identifiers/model numbers/classifications I should be looking for?

I would just go to the local Mercedes dealer. They should be able to view your data card and have a new set of keys made.

These keys are available at any reputable locksmith shop. At first i thought they were the Ymos keys, but they are just the reproductions from Taylor.
Just order the new keys from the dealer and breathe easier that they will fit right. Or you can take your old keys and get them copied at a locksmith shop.
I believe you have the keys for the later models and they will have the notches on both sides. The early ones had them on one side.

Here's what the Classic Center said about key blanks for my 230. They are the one-sided version so you will have to check for your 280. Hope this helps:
111 462 01 32 9604 ignition sug. list $ 16.50
000 766 20 06 9302 trunk & glove sug. list $ 36.50
000 766 19 06 9401 door & tank sug. list $ 36.50
Please contact your local Mercedes Benz authorized dealer for purchase.
Proof of ownership and chassis number required.

I gave my VIN to the local dealer and had two stainless steel, vinyl head, MB keys THE NEXT DAY! The two ignition keys cost me close to $50 including tax. Work perfectly.
