Post by: hjhofman on May 27, 2003, 05:56:45

All,

I found out that the engine of my 1964 230 sl is replaced with an 280 SE/NV engine from probably a W 109 or 111

can anyone tell me what the NV stands for

regards,

Herbert,
NV probably means "Niederverdichtung", low compression ratio. Engines with lower compression ratio were available for countries with lower octane gasoline, to prevent knocking.
Engines with NV had a different "Baumuster", i.e. engine number. E.g. a 280SE engine number with regular compression ratio might start with 130.980...., while the low compression version would start with 130.984....
