Title: Oil Pan Gasket Replacement
Post by: johnm on May 03, 2023, 15:09:47
Curious if the replacement of the Oil Pan Gasket in my 1970 280SL is a DYI job or must be done by a service technician. Also, if it is a DYI job, what would be the torque value required when reinstalling the oil pan bolts. Appreciate any tips and tricks. Thanks very much.

Hi,
I changed the oil pan gasket last year in the garage with ramps. It was pretty easy, if your engine mounts are OK so that there is enough clearance to the front axle carrier.
What you need for some screws are special Allen keys (ball head) that get to the rear screws better.
Due to the amount of screws, I used a
accu screwdriver.
I applied a thin coat of sealing compound to both sides of the cork seal.
Tightening torque: 1.1 kpm/10 Nm.
