Hi everyone, longtime fan of this site. This is my first post.
I have a January 1971 280SL. I ordered a replacement speaker and was wondering the best way to get the wood grill off. I think there’s two clips but wanted to check. Car was from Arizona, I am the second owner. Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard, not sure on the clips but my 280SL was produced 12/70 in the same color as your 050/black .
It a wonderful forum, plenty of knowledge here .

May be different, but on my 230SL I recall two Phillips screws that were very difficult to reach, but visible through the windshield.

On my 280 SL (Sept 1969 build) there are two screws visible through the windshield as Rodd indicates. I can reach them easily with a stubby phillips screw driver. The one I have is about 9 cm tip to top of handle.

Step 1 -remove the windscreen...
Mine too has a pair of cross-head screws in the grille toward either end (seat). You'll need a stubby screwdriver as access is a little limited by the windscreen. You SHOULD see the screws looking through the screen from above - or the holes they once sat in.

1970 two small philips head screws as shown in prior post picture. You do not need to remove windshield.

Thanks everyone! Very simple. Now on to replacing the speaker with one from authentic classics. Sure seems like a lot of clips!
