Title: Replacing speaker on 280SL - how to remove wood grill?
Post by: 71280SL on April 24, 2023, 22:04:20: Hi everyone, longtime fan of this site. This is my first post.

I have a January 1971 280SL. I ordered a replacement speaker and was wondering the best way to get the wood grill off. I think there’s two clips but wanted to check. Car was from Arizona, I am the second owner. Thanks in advance!

Post by: Jonny B on April 24, 2023, 22:47:25: On my 280 SL (Sept 1969 build) there are two screws visible through the windshield as Rodd indicates. I can reach them easily with a stubby phillips screw driver. The one I have is about 9 cm tip to top of handle.

Mine too has a pair of cross-head screws in the grille toward either end (seat). You'll need a stubby screwdriver as access is a little limited by the windscreen. You SHOULD see the screws looking through the screen from above - or the holes they once sat in.
