1969 280SL RHD
My wipers stop where they end up when they are switched off. I've tried this with the wipers disconnected from the motor and it stops in random places
I've cleaned the contacts, since the photo.
Could the issue be the motor wiring? The last photo shows that the connector box has been opened by a previous owner, which makes me suspicious.
I'm a new member and this is my first question, so sorry if I've missed something!
I've searched the technical manual and can't find the answer.

The advice is always to take care when working under the dash and isolate the supply before putting your hands anywhere near the wiper mechanism

I had seen this post, which is slightly different to my issue. My motor stops turning as soon as the wipers are switched off, which makes me think that the motor is wired incorrectly.

Have a look on here for details of the wiring to the wiper motor plug. Seems pin 4 should have a permanent +ve supply from the fuse, i think this is for the wiper blade parking, but have a read. Be careful as this post discusses pagoda's and other cars

I thought mine was the only Pagoda with the "intermittent wiper" option. I have never tracked down why (because it rarely happens) but my wipers sometimes jump up a bit. And parking them in their proper resting spot requires perfect timing when hitting the stalk mechanism.

That's correct, you have the wrong wiper motor. That's a W111 (5-pin) motor. The Pagoda wiper motor has 4 pins. It looks very similar but functions differently. While the W111 motor bolts into and plugs into a Pagoda, it will not park properly.

Yes, the small pin is just a locator

Thank you everyone for your help, I've now sourced the correct wiper motor, though have to replace the connector.
I'm a little confused with the wiring as in the technical manual it shows:
PIN 1 = BLACK/GREEN
PIN 2 = BLACK/WHITE/PURPLE
PIN 3 = BROWN to GROUND
PIN 4 = BLACK VIOLET to VOLTAGE FUSE 2
The pin 3 on my motor does not appear to be earth (see photo)
Am I missing something?

Hello, i saw that in the tech manual, not sure why it's different from the wiring diagrams
The correct connections are:
Pin 1 - black/violet/white - to relay
Pin 2 - brown - earth
Pin 3 - black/violet/green - to wiper switch
Pin 4 - black/violet - to fuse 2

My W111 250 SE cabrio wipers park "arms folded" as can be seen in the picture even though they are not parked correctly. I believe the sedans do the same.

My mistake, post removed. I had a Coupe as well as a Cabrio some time ago, which I both restored, can’t believe it got I wrong.

No problem. I haven't investigated how to get the arms to park in the right places. They also don't park automatically after I removed and reinstalled the washer foot control. I need to figure that out.
