In trunk there are two hatch covers (behind where license plate attaches), and below one of the covers there is a clip, that would hold something perhaps 12mm 1/2" in diameter. What is this clip for?
-
I believe that is for the luggage strap. https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=16581.msg115549#msg115549

Correct

I did my own strap, bought replacement strap for shoulder bag from Gusti Läder, it is hand made in neutral leather, it might differ in colour from the original but it has a bit of patina that match the cars age.

If anyone has two of those trunk covers, I would be very happy to take them off you hands. It would appear my 64 230SL does not have them. Where they always there even on early models, or added later?
-
My 1965 car has them, can't confirm if earlier cars did. They're available from quite a few suppliers. I think the original part number is 1136930033

Part-Nr 113 693 0033 was/is listed for all models with no exceptions.

It's my understanding that the rubber trunk mats were delivered with the car when new. The first post in this thread shows the proper material. With you having a 1964, does that mean you have the vertical spare tire on the left side? Group: Does that require a different trunk mat?

Yes, early trunk matts are different. You can get early and late matts as repro parts.

I realized after he posted that he probably didn't mean rubber mats. I think he meant the square metal access panels on the rear of the trunk area.

Correct, sorry for the confusion. I meant the metal trunk covers that cover the holes in the rear panels of the trunk between the taillights as described by BobH part no. 1136930033
cover inner rear panel R107/113, W116
Thanks for the heads up on the rubber mats though. My trunk has those and the upright spare on the left side.
