Title: Complete Wiring Loom
Post by: RobSirg on February 07, 2023, 05:15:57
A friend of mine is looking for a complete wiring loom.

Preferably 230SL and Manual (RHD) but he is willing to take whatever is available and modifying it as necessary.

This is in needed in Melbourne, Australia, but we will obviously pay for the shipment.

Regards,

Rob,

Two sources.
Ipeterssen, a member here who makes the looms and has a great knowledge with these vehicles or this link

Yes, Ipeterssen is an active, supportive member here who can help you out.
I've also heard good things about Rhode Island Wiring (web site is antiquated) http://www.riwire.com/
I would also take seriously any company Stickandrudderman recommends.  http://www.autosparks.co.uk/
Surely there must be a resource in Australia??

Rob, I bought from Rhode Island and was very happy with the loom I received. Using this loom requires that you remove all the bakelite plug connectors from your old wiring harness and attach them to the new one. Inside the connectors are metal pins - mostly female - that you have to unsolder one by one from the wires in the old loom, then solder them, one by one, onto the new wire loom. It is a bit of a tedious process by I did it over a winter when the car body was off to the body shop. Rhode Island wiring provided an excellent "road map" of where each wire goes and where each wire needs to be in each of the bakelite connectors.

If you don't want to do that soldering work, you would want to specify that with any vendor you are considering.

Dear Rob

I am already in contact with your friend Evan from Melbourne Australia.  I suppose is the same case of study.

Gary and rwmastel, thanks you so much for your nice comments and recommendations on my work.

And I also agree with the suggestion of my friend Leester regarding the option of Rhode Island Wiring. Good quality but requires a lot of man hours to pass all pin connectors from old harness to the new one and great soldering skills with a professional soldering gun (Weller From Germany better).

Best Regards
