Title: Alternator Wiring?
Post by: bpossel on June 17, 2005, 15:50:21
 There are 2 posts on my Bosch 35amp alternator.  The right side is labeled "B+", the left side is labeled with x2 "B+".  The right side holds the wire that comes from the small black diode (?).

Are both sides the same?  In other words, it doesnt matter which side to connect the wires coming from the small terminal block?

Hello Bob,
The small black box on back of some  alternators is a radio supression filter added to vehicles with radios from the factory. I believe the two B+ terminals on the early alternators are the same as far as function. You can use either.

Hi Joe,

Thanks!  It would seem they are the same, but as I am installing the new 35amp Bosch alt, it is setup with the loose nut on the left side (B+) terminal.  When I removed the old alt, the right side B+ was where both the wire to the terminal block and the radio sup was connected.

I will bring the old alt to Ohio.  Maybe can use for one of the tech sessions...  replace the brushes...?

Thanks again!

Hello Bob,
Good suggestion. Starters and alternators would be a good Ohio tech topic. Almost every W113 owner will have to deal with issues on these at some point.
