A few weeks ago, I commissioned a gentleman do a mock-up of some modifications to my SL. He just delivered them. These include:
- yellow fog lights
- yellow headlights
- gold-colored Bundt wheels
- Rallye-style seats
- Talbot mirrors
- Nardi wheel
Overall a very interesting look. Rims are too ostentatious in that shade, but if they were more of a matte like the headlights, it could be interesting. I didn't nitpick that the headlamps are US-style.

Last one. I didn't pay to have the interior rendered, though I am considering it.

Yes, you need more legroom... ;)

Interesting. So this is to help you envision the mods before you make them? Has he created a model that can be re-skinned? What's the polygon count/resolution?

I don't think it's a physical 3D printed model. I think he bought a digital 3D image modeled in AutoCAD or similar. Can rotate, zoom on-screen. Interesting solution for making unusual changes where examples can't be found online. Not changes I would make, but everyone has their own preferences and style.

Indeed! There was a 280SL model which happened to be the right color available for purchase online. I thought it was money well-spent having a mock-up like this done before committing to purchasing expensive accessories that I may or may not even like. In the case of the wheels, I've only ever seen one example of them re-colored, and they were painted brown or something to match a tobacco brown 280SL.

I strongly recommend having him color the body sills black/dark grey in the next iteration.

This looks very British to me for some reason. Not sure if it's the side mirrors, body color rocker panels, racing number, the wheels, and/or the seats. It looks like some MG prototype. Too bad you can't modify the rendering yourself and adjust things, it would be so much fun!!

The Porsche crowd here love a Talbot mirror. But generally accept they cannot see anything in them…

I did not realize this but apparently Mechatronik's SL configurator is back online. It was gone for a while. Fun to play around with the color options! And just as well, one can see the "Barock" wheels silver, grey, black, or bronze/gold colors.
While certainly an interesting look, I think it clashes with the chrome. Not bad with the dark blue and dark greens, though. I suppose the bronze look is much nicer on cars with less chrome and color-matched rearview mirrors.
It really is too bad Mechatronik hasn't developed a 15" aluminum alloy wheel that could take a hub. And made repro hubcaps, to boot.
