Title: What is the purpose of the return line having a T that splits the return fuel

What is the purpose if the return line going to the tank and also splits with a T and goes to the Fuel pump. This is for a 1970 SL

Well I did find out a few useful posts here and it all leads to preventing vapor lock. As my car originally had the T fitting Ill add it back in.
