Title: Rear axle bearing lock nut tool
Post by: stewarttt on November 18, 2022, 19:48:48
For those that might be interested here is a tool you can make to lock down your rear axle bearing nuts.
Of course it won’t tell you how much torque you’re putting on the nut, but you can definitely lock it down very tight (100+ Ft lbs) with this 1 1/2 modified open end wrench. ( I believe the spec is 140 ft lbs). If you think you can use this, and don’t want to go through the hassle of making one, let me know and I will ship it to you and then you can ship it back when you’re done.

I made a tool I can share and you can use a torque wrench on it.

This is what I made up with a piece of pipe, some flat bar and a sacrificial 1/2 inch socket to weld on the top so I could use a torque wrench.

I fitted the axle back to a wheel and tyre and placed it on a rough concrete surface with axle pointing vertical, stood on the tyre so it would grip in to the concrete and torqued the nut up. Of course you wouldn’t want to do this with some nice new whitewalls.

Whilst it would be prohibitively expensive to ship this from Australia, it at least gives you the idea.
