Title: Trunk color

What is the correct trunk color, the color of the car or a some what flat black?  I am speaking about a 280 sl.

Correct trunk (boot) color is the semi-gloss "chassis black".

I don't recall where I learned this, but the trunk has a specific color code and name:

Tiefdunkelgrau code 7164

I think I read that some were grey but most of the 280SLs were the same low-gloss black as the spare tire stand, jack, etc.

The color (Tiefdunkelgrau) that Tom is referring to looks black; as far as I know certain parts of all cars were painted with this color.

Agree. Without being prompted to examine the color for tones of gray, one would conclude that it is a matt black.
