Hello All,
I started the car up tonight and instantly had a fuel leak from the intake side. I am new to the forum a new to this beautiful 230 SL. Is this a common issue? Any direction to repair this is greatly appreciated.

Hi Hattrick and welcome.
I had a similar problem, turned out to be a little O ring on the valve solenoid.
Replaced with one from SLS.

Update: I installed a new "Cold Start Solenoid Hardware & Seal kit" to no avail.... the leak is still there. It looks like the fuel is leaking from the top of the solenoid itself, where the black plastic and metal meet. Does this mean the solenoid has failed internally?
If so, is the $650+ solenoid from Authentic Classics my only option for a replacement?

I don't know where yous is leaking from, but regarding "your only choice", these can be rebuilt professionally. Any company that rebuilds the fuel injection pumps should also rebuild these cold start valves.
You say you're new to the forum - have you utilized the Search feature to find other threads about this same issue? Search for "cold start valve" or "cold start solenoid" or "leak cold start" or similar. Happy reading!

Have a look here, should tell you everything you need to know

I don't think that the solenoid has much protection against leakage if the valve is allowing fuel to pass when it's closed. Did you check the valve to see if it's seating correctly? Is there dirt or whatever preventing it from seating correctly? Is the spring OK?
I think you could test this by removing the screw from the test port and seeing if fuel comes out when the ignition switch is turned on.
Good luck,
