Title: Oil ZDDP level for camshaft run-in
Post by: Berggreen on July 08, 2022, 19:59:42
Hi All

I have just installed a brand new camshaft (02), cam bearings and valve lifters in my 280SL from 1970.

Now I am going to run it in, and I am unsure how much ZDDP is needed in the oil to protect it during the run-in period.

The Vantage Revival V67S2 20W50 mineral oil, the engine is running now, has according to the manufacturer a ZDDP level of 2200 ppm. Is that enough for the run-in? Or should I add an extra bottle of CamShield, which should raise the ZDDP level with another 800 ppm, thus to 3000 ppm?

I would appreciate your views and recommendations. :)

Thanks,

Christian
