Title: safety catch door handles

How do you repair the safety catch on door handles?  Do I need to replace entire handles?

Not sure what you mean by "safety catch".

when one partially pushes the door handle button from the outside, the door doesn't fully unlatch.  It's a partial unlatch, for safety reasons.  In my car the safety latch only appears to work on the driver's side, but not the passenger side.  Wondering if/how to repair this.

Have you done anything to your door latch on the B pillar recently?

It could be that the latch has moved up slightly so the first notch under the latch is not catching.  Look under the latch and you should see 2 notches, the first one catches the door as you start to close it (your safety catch) while the second notch keeps the door closed fully.  You should hear 2 clicks as you close the door.  I suspect either the B pillar latch has moved or the one on the door itself.
