Title: what shocks do i have
Post by: lgarret on December 20, 2021, 19:20:34
an interesting find during my rear axle rebuild I am currently doing, i should say on a 65 230sl.
both rear shocks have a single blue bar and what appears to be a date code of 4 of 77.
anyone have an idea as to what they are and are they correct for my car???
was looking at replacing them with stock Bilstein's and i thought they should have had the 4 green bars on them
ja17 or anyone have some thoughts on these??

The good news is that they are original Mercedes Benz shocks.
The bad news is that they are not correct for 113; they are for a 108 (280SE etc).
The correct part number for 113 is: 1133200031

So is there a chance they installed these to help with the ride or the tendency to front dive under heavy braking???

There is clearly an MB parts number on the shock(s), just below the Bilstein label:
109 326 02 00.

Don't know whatever reason the person had to put them in (your car) but as Stick mentioned,
those are for the W109 or W108, not for the Pagoda.

Basically you can fit together a lot of MB parts anywhere - but that doesn't make it correct or so only because it physically fits ....

Just kick them out and get the proper (Bilstein) ones.

Just my 2 cents....

A.

Thanks stick/achim, will probably just replace. I did think at one point some had used shocks for a heavier car to change the ride. Will be interesting to see how the car drives once these are replaced and rear axle refurb with all new rubber mounts and such
