Title: Fuel pump rebuild
Post by: gregkonop on November 15, 2021, 21:19:43
Hi, it looks like I will need to rebuild/replace the fuel pump on my 1970 280 SL ( short pump ). It works but is not building right pressure. All the filters have been cleaned/changed , all rubber hoses replaced.
Any idea where to rebuild the pump in Europe ( best in Poland ).
Thanks.
Greg

Baron Youngman a member is located in USA but does rebuilds and ships. He did mine and an excellent job! You may want to PM him.

I’m trying to rebuild my short pump and cannot figure out how to replace the brushes.

Also one of my individual brush brackets came loose. How is it put back?

We rebuild them here in the UK.

So to properly do it you would need to drill out that wafer plate screw in both brush holders shave off the screw bottoms so they do not touch the metal grounding them and then screws the entire assembly back onto the housing. You also can try using J-B Weld the original formula. Not quick dry or any of the other forms. But depending on the amount of ethanol in your gas I'm not sure how long it would last. Bob

Thanks Bob for the info today.  I was able to remove the fiber board plate without too much metal removal.  I also made some copper rivets and remounted the brush holder.  I will post pictures of the progress later for everyones edification.
