Title: 123Ignition project
Post by: NewToW113 on November 15, 2021, 19:22:52
Hi ignition experts.  Im about to dive into the 123ignition swap.  My Dizzy 051 is spent and I like the idea of the bluetooth tuning (and disable feature)

Im going to basically follow the instructions from a earlier post: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=25879.0   However I have a few additional questions that I wanted to ask before pulling everything apart:

1) its really hard to see the marks with a strobe with the hood on, I DO NOT want to try and take it off....any hacks that could make it easier?
2) when I get an an angle on the pointer, the marks on the dampener are really hard to read. I see a line but no numbers when my light is on plug 1.  Is this normal?  The car idles well now and I would like to get a baseline of where the advance is at idle.
3) what plugs are optimum with this setup?  I have a Bosh Red Coil.  I was planning on NGK BP5ES but I realize they no longer make them.

Thanks for the help as always.

On your first two questions, yes it is quite doable to see the timing with a strobe light without taking the hood off. You do have to be a little bit careful how you point it and hold it, so it does not hit the fan. Secondly, I mark the timing mark with a stripe of white-out so that it's clearly visible when the engine is running and you point the strobe light.

Thanks Cees.  I like the white out idea.

Search Amazon for “NGK BP5ES”. They can still be found.
You may want to start off with the BP6ES if you haven’t cross referenced your current plugs heat range. If you know your number and the current plugs look ok then go ahead and cross ref them to the NGK.

I’m waiting for your project to take off with as much anticipation as I’m waiting for my parts scattered in the mail around the world.
Have you prepped your initial 123 curves already?

or, take some chalk, wipe it on a clean balancer and rub the chalk into the numbers and markings.  Certainly no reason to remove the hood.
