Title: SIDE MIRROR
Post by: John Betsch - "SADIE" on September 01, 2021, 16:10:48
There is a '64 230SL on BAT  (https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1964-mercedes-benz-230sl-20/?utm_source=dm&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2021-09-01)
which in the pictures shows the outside mirror.  While there is  no notation about replacing doors etc, I though this to be a 280Sl mirror.

My question: Were there choices or possibly Country differences in the style mirror where the "gooseneck" style wasn't used by the factory?  Mine is a 230Sl with the square style mirror and I have been told the doors were never replaced?

What if a P/O put the mirror on himself? I have a right side mirror on my 71 280 and I installed it myself shortly after I got the car.

Gotcha, but both the left and right side mirrors are the "square type"

I believe the holes for the "gooseneck" would not line up if they were swapped out to the square, implying they were installed at the same time.  Make sense?

So my question is could these (square) mirrors be factory or maybe dealer installed?  I don't believe a mirror code (e.g. right hand mirror) is noted on the data card.
