Title: Using red loctite on soft top frame
Post by: dakman29 on August 23, 2021, 17:02:36
Hello:  I've had a recurring issue with one of the the flathead shoulder bolts on the soft top frame.  A couple of years ago I installed a helicoil insert and ordered a replacement bolt and the problem seemed resolved.  On a recent road trip, however, in which the top was up and down multiple times, the bolt came loose again.  When the new bolt was received it was precoated with blue loctite.  I'm thinking of using the red stuff this time and wanted to know if others have done so.  Thanks

Not sure which bolt you are referring to on the top frame.
But when assembled they punched the bolts on the other end, thus making the bolts stay in their slots.
Was this done when you replaced the bolt with a helicoil?
Not sure if loctite will work.

As long as you clean the threads and the bolt well it should work fine.  I prefer the newer thickened gell style threadlockers.
