Title: Window glass rattles because jaws fell off.
Post by: Jack Hernan on August 19, 2021, 23:08:52
How do I reattached window jaws that have fallen off( epoxy, super glue, silicon caulk?). Is there a special felt type material that goes into the channel before fastening the jaws to the glass? What is s good cleaner for the track the jaws slide in. Any recommendations for track lubricant after I clean it?

Hello Jack,

You can do the job without removing the glass from the door. Clean the metal window guide channel in the door. Clean both sides of the glass where the jaws will be installed. Also clean the inside of the jaws with alcohol. Plain rubbing alcohol works well. Use clear silicone adhesive/sealant. The silicone is thick enough and the felt is not needed. I like to use silicone because it is thick enough not to drain off like epoxies. It is also an excellent adhesive to use on glass. Roll the window half way up.  Fill the glass slot in the jaw with silicone. Install the jaw on the metal window channel (below the glass) and carefully slide it upward into position on the glass. The excess silicone can be removed with paper towel or rag. Repeat the process on the other side. The window should not be moved for 24 hours. After the silicone has set to full strength (24 hrs.), you can use some light oil in the window channels to lubricate the sliding jaws. Be careful not to install the jaws too far up on the glass or it will prevent the window from rolling all the way up.

Polyurethane adhesive also works well
