Nobody hurt - thank God! Car will be fixed. Stories will be told. But emotions were high, I am sure.

We were driven in 170 Cabrio A to the wedding. My wife's dress hardly fit... but... the eye on the clutch rod broke off during the ride. We had to make ca 15km through town to the wedding place. Fortunately it happened on the 2nd gear, so the driver just continued driving, did not even stop. I just noticed that when we were going through several large road crossings with traffic lights on red lights (other drivers just stopped and were laughing), our driver had his eyes closed....

Then the company who rented us the car - swapped it for another 170 if I recall correctly.

I've worked around 190SL's for 44 years and I've never seen one catch on fire. Looks like a fuel fire around the carbs. It probably burned itself out as there's not much else that can burn in that area.
