Title: Hard Top Chrome Removal
Post by: wpw2511 on July 19, 2021, 00:06:12
Hi everyone,

All the chrome trims on my hard top are pretty shot and I'm trying to remove it to get it rechromed. I have removed all the front portion of my hardtop chrome trims but am not stuck around the rear quarter window area. Is it possible to remove all the chrome trims without removing the rear quarter window and rear windshield? In addition, is it also possible to not have to cut the seals around the rear quarter window?

Thanks in advance!

Chrome is not removable without taking the quarterglass out.
Best ro remove all the glass by cutting out the seals.
Put new seals in and at same time fix any rust issues under the seals.

Sage advice, Walt!  I just had my hardtop restored after all these years. There was a missing bit of chrome, and 22 pieces needed to be replaced. And those rear quarter windows? There is no task harder than replacing those seals and reinstalling the glass there...

My experience is that the chrome can come off, without taking the quarterglass out or more precise the seal.

Problem is however that if the seal is old, and thus very stiff even hardened you have to cut or will destroy the sealing.

I took off the chrome, on a reasonable “fresh” seal, without a problem.
And yes, putting back the quarterglass is very very cumbersome.
