Title: Sway Bar Bushings - How Tight?
Post by: bpossel on April 30, 2005, 08:46:50
I just replaced my sway bar bushings.

:?:   Question:  How much do I tighten down the nut (long bolt) on each side?  How much do I squish these new rubber donuts?

Thanks!
Bob

You do squish them a bit. I believe 23 mm of bolt should show.

Tighten them all the way.  Note that one of the bolts has flats on the end.  Don't allow this to turn.  It is an eccentric that is used to position the front crossmember.  Some alignment techs used it to adjust the caster, but I think the original purpose was to set the wheelbase equal on both sides as part of an alignment.

 :) Update!

I found the spec in the BBB (32-0/15).

See attached pic. Jim, you are correct 23 +- 1mm.

Thanks!
Bob
