All,
It started 3 weeks ago with a major decision in my 230SL (1967) life. I was going to take the engine out and check piston no1. and no2. (lower compression then the rest)
Today I put the engine on the engine stand (with the head already removed) and started to take bits and pieces off. Like FIP, Waterpump, several pulleys etc.
When I turned the engine up side down, the small bit which links to my (123) ignition dropped out (no scratches etc) but it was an uncontrolled move from me ...
After 5 min I saw a spring on the floor ... and that is where the mystery starts ...
I do not have a clue where it came from ... from the Fuel Ignition Pump, from the ignition ?
Here is a pict.
As I told you ... this is a long shot ... but who knows ...
Be safe,
Bart

Spring (below) ignition distributor: A127 993 0101
Goes between helical gear and distributor. 8)

Appears there is no such thing as a 'long shot' on this site!!

Yeah, it's the distributor spring. Keeps a bit of positive pressure on the gears.
