Can anyone decode each set of digits?
670 _____? 408 _____? 6 ______?
113042 10 (understood) 2 ______?
00042 ______? 00472 ______?

There is a comprehensive guide to the codes in the technical manual on this site
https://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/Start
https://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/BodyandPaintNumberPlate
Should find everything in there!

Correct.
670 _____? 408 _____? 6 ______?
113042 10 (understood) 2 ______?
00042 ______? 00472 ______?
670: body color: light ivory
408 hardtop color: Havanna brown
6 - hardtop mounted (and softtop in softtop box/compartment)
113042 - means this is a 230 SL
10 - means lefthand drive (LHD) and manual gear box
2 - means European delivery - Germany
00042 - production number (within the workshift which actually 'fabricated' the car)
00472 - body number
Try getting the datacard (copy) from Mercedes-Benz, expensive but valuable for accurate restoration;
you'll find all those numbers there on the datacard again - and others.
