Title: Convertible Top "Catch"
Post by: Harry on May 24, 2021, 23:24:41
Hi everyone.  I've found that it is sometimes a job to bring the bow below the rear window from the folded position to the lowered position when I am putting the top up.  "Catch" refers to the two spring loaded pins attached to the lowering part of the frame that have to be pulled across the cam part of the frame - one on each side.  Does that make sense?  Each "catch" is a pin captured within a small cylinder and loaded by what appears to be a spring (not visible).  The cylinder includes a screw on each side is adjustable with a screwdriver by turning to compress the spring further (harder to push the pin) or looser to reduce the compression of the spring (easier to push the pin).
What is the correct procedure for this adjustment?

Thanks in advance,
Harry

I'm always surprised when I "stump" the Forum (and I don't really think that happens).  No others with this experience?

Thanks again,
Harry

It's the use of the word "correct" that has stumped us!
Personally I just loosen the clamp bolts and adjust until I find the sweet spot.

Thanks stickandrudderman.  So it's a matter of "feel".  I wonder why these are there?  Just to prevent the lower bow from falling down inadvertently during the raising/lowering process?  It appears so.  I probably will disassemble each one and be sure it is clean and operating smoothly.  Just seems like it's too difficult to pull the bow across these catches.

Thank you,
Harry

I presume it's to hold the bow in place after lowering so you can then raise it freely and not need MrFatboy's Bow Buddy.
