Hello everyone .
So my 68 has aftermarket rear speakers installed that are hideous to say the least . Lol
I was curious if by any chance if back in the day they were rear speakers installed by the dealer so I can search for replacements to the ones I have so it may look more stock .
Also if anyone has any suggestions of other options that may work to make the rear look more stock it would be appreciated !! I thought of possibly cutting pieces of the carpet and patching the holes ??

I could be wrong but I don’t think w113’s were delivered with stereo radios prior to 1969. The Becker Europa stereo was the only stereo available as an option. If ordered, speakers were installed in the foot wells which had openings for their installation. I have seen both Becker and Blaupunkt speakers installed as yours are or horizontally on the rear shelf. Some were dealer installed, while others were done so by the owners or by an audio dealer. Either way, they never looked like they belonged. Were it my car, I’d be tempted to follow your suggestion: remove them and patch the holes in the carpeting.

Thanks , that’s what I was thinking I’m curious if anyone’s dorm that and how it turned out

You’d have to remove the speakers to know for certain how much damage has been done to the carpets. Since the carpeting is glued in that area, I wouldn’t be surprised if the visible damage was no more than a small hole for the speaker wire and two holes for screws supporting the speaker cases.

I’m guessing cable and screws would be visible in the soft top compartment. There’ll no doubt be marks left on the carpet (differences in fading/aging).

Have you tried to look for a pair of speakers from the era? Becker, Philips...
e.g. https://www.chromelondon.com/2x-loudspeaker-pods-new-pair--60s70s---universal-3868-p.asp

I have not , I will take a look at the link .
Thanks for the suggestion
