Title: MB 380 sl 1983

I am thinking of buying my mechanic's 1983 380 SL for US$4000...the engine has been rebuilt 49k ago...mileage is at 254k...original paint and interiors are all well kept, and everything's working from the engine to the radio...since this'll be my first MB, i have no clue as to the reputation of this car out there among collectors...any tips will be highly appreciated...thanks a lot.

Joe,
this site covers the SLs from 1964 to 1971.  You might try this site for questions about the 380 SL:

Also, make sure the timing chain has been replaced with a double-row chain.  It probably has been, but still make sure.
