Title: Horn rattle
Post by: col320ce on May 01, 2021, 23:39:05
I'm struggling to find out why my horn rattles. I've looked up the 3 parts mentioned but are they for a later steering wheel?
The horn ring looks good and it sits into some groves behind it so I can't see that there is a way of pushing it forward.
I'm obviously missing something...
(BTW this is the 250SE but I assume is identical to the pagoda)

My horn ring was rattling and I replaced the 3 horn rubber isolation bumper pads (115-464-00-24) between the horn ring and steering wheel, which solved the problem. 70 cents each from MB.
Don't know if yours has these.

Hi Gary

OK I think I understand now... Looks like they attach to the steering wheel between the steering wheel and the chrome horn part. I thought the fix was behind all of this.

Thanks!

The parts mentioned (A1154640024) are, as you mentioned in the first post, in the later steering wheel solution, from chassis 043 002980. I was looking in the parts list for similar grommets, but did not find anything...

So any idea what the solution is for the earlier steering wheels?

I fixed the problem by putting some felt between the steering wheel and the bit immediately behind it that attached to the chrome trim. I tried rubber but that was too thick (so the horn was on all the time).  A little glue to the steering wheel is all I put on.
Interested if there is a better or "correct" solution to this.
