Title: tracking history by VIN number

New member here, first post
 I just bought my first 1971 280SL after a several month search. It was extensively restored in Florida in 2015, but otherwise I know nothing about the cars history. There is no data card, or any other paperwork. Is there a way to contact Mercedes to get a replacement data card?

Welcome and congratulations!
Contact the Mercedes Classic Center and they can get it for you - $150
You'll have to provide proof of ownership.
