Title: Help Routing Harness for Alt & Terminal Block to Starter 1970 280SL
Post by: Leester on April 21, 2021, 15:24:35
All,

I have a new RIW harness and looking at how to run it to the alternator. It appears that it is designed to run underneath the air filter housing then back to the alternator. The same harness has the connections for the terminal block on the oil pan that then go to the starter.

My first guess was just to run the harness over to the alternator but then I end up with a lot of slack - I mean a lot.

I didn't remove the original harness so any help is much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Lee

One more small piece of info. I'm using the W108 AC bracket which positions the alternator at the bottom. I don't think that makes a difference, though. I've also looked through photos on the Motoring Investment site but don't see anything that helps.

Lee, See attached photos. The harness goes through the pinch weld hole and grommet just aft of the air cleaner. There is a bit of slack floating around below by the alternator and oil pan block. The reason it was left long is that the same harness is used for cars with air conditioning and the alternator is mounted on top. Needed to be long enough to reach the oil pan terminal block.
